Cartoons for the Classroom

Satirical or political cartoons have long been a useful source of stimulus material, encouraging and stimulating discursive work in a variety of topics. The Association of American Editorial Cartoonists have kindly streamlined made the whole process of finding topical material and wrapping it together with suitable prompts to support:

 “Responding to a variety of written, visual and electronic texts by making connections to students’ personal lives and the lives of others; posing social science questions

The collection of 210 resources span a range of topics suitable for History, Politics, Economics, PSHE, English, Geography, Science, and ICT. It takes no more than a little imagination to see how this example [PDF] is cross-curricualr, linking Economics and Classics of all things! Students can either discuss/answer the questions as provided, or can create their own captions using the additional blanked copy.

Published once a fortnight, these resources could become a regular feature of classroom studies … or maybe save you the time of preparing and setting homework every so often?
